Travel Tips & Neighbourhood Guides
Short, honest guides to our locations in Vienna, Klagenfurt and Villach — with apartments you can book direct. We only write what we can back up.
Klagenfurt am Wörthersee — Travel Tips & Apartments
Klagenfurt am Wörthersee is the capital of Carinthia, and still a city you can take in on foot in a day. Neuer Platz with its Lindwurm fountain is the reference point, Alter Platz sits right next to it, and between them open the arcaded courtyards you almost stumble into from the lane. West of the city Lake Wörthersee begins, with the Lend Canal running towards it. We run six apartments here, across three buildings. This guide tells you what to expect in the city and where our apartments are. What we cannot verify ourselves is deliberately left out: you will find distances and travel times in the facts box only where we have checked them — you will not find estimated minutes here.

Villach sits where Carinthia turns Italian and Slovenian towards the south. The Drava splits the city: on one bank the old town crowds around the main square and the tower of St Jakob's parish church, on the other the promenade runs along the water. Anyone who has stood there knows the colour of the Drava — turquoise-green when the sun is on it. On the horizon stand the Karawanks. Our five apartments are on exactly that promenade, right by the river, with the old town in sight on the opposite bank. This guide tells you what that means day to day — including what argues against the location.

Our four apartments in Favoriten are in Oberlaa, right at the southern edge of the district. This is deliberately not the postcard old town: it is quieter, greener and further out. What you get in return is the U1. The line starts here — Oberlaa is the terminus, so you board an empty train. Stephansplatz is ten stops away with no change. What Oberlaa has and the city centre does not: Therme Wien and one of the largest parks in the city, both a few hundred metres away. If your idea of an evening after sightseeing is thermal water rather than another bar, you will like it here. If you want to walk from museum to museum, you probably will not — better to say so upfront.

Our three apartments in Floridsdorf are in Donaufeld, a few hundred metres from the Franz-Jonas-Platz transport hub. Floridsdorf lies on the left bank of the Danube — for guests that means you stay where Vienna is everyday life rather than scenery. The City of Vienna records the 21st district as the one with the lowest density of visitors. That has two very concrete consequences. The pleasant one: shops everywhere, several supermarkets within a few hundred metres, and the S7 takes you to the airport without a single change. The inconvenient one, said upfront: there is no through connection to Stephansplatz. You will always change once.

Our two apartments in Landstraße are on Radetzkystraße in the Weißgerber quarter, a few steps from the Danube Canal. Of our Vienna locations this is the most central: if you are coming to Vienna for the first time and want to see a lot on foot, this is the right base. Two numbers describe the location better than any adjective. The Radetzkyplatz tram stop is around 25 metres away, and a supermarket and a pharmacy are each a good 40 metres. KunstHausWien with its Hundertwasser museum is around 220 metres further as the crow flies.
View 2 apartmentsLeopoldstadt — Travel Tips and Apartments
Leopoldstadt lies between the Danube Canal and the Danube itself — an island setting in the middle of Vienna, within walking distance of the old town yet with a character of its own. For guests it is one of the city’s more comfortable compromises: central enough to cover a lot on foot, and quieter than the 1st district. Our two apartments here are around 900 metres apart, in two different neighbourhoods, and they even sit on different metro lines. So we describe both separately below rather than quoting an average that would fit neither.
