Klagenfurt am Wörthersee — Travel Tips & Apartments
Klagenfurt am Wörthersee is the capital of Carinthia, and still a city you can take in on foot in a day. Neuer Platz with its Lindwurm fountain is the reference point, Alter Platz sits right next to it, and between them open the arcaded courtyards you almost stumble into from the lane. West of the city Lake Wörthersee begins, with the Lend Canal running towards it. We run six apartments here, across three buildings. This guide tells you what to expect in the city and where our apartments are. What we cannot verify ourselves is deliberately left out: you will find distances and travel times in the facts box only where we have checked them — you will not find estimated minutes here.
Who this location suits
- Couples who want a compact old town and a swimming lake in the same trip
- Families and groups — one of our apartments sleeps eight
- Guests arriving by car: Villa 100und10 has its own parking spaces on the grounds
The old town, Neuer Platz and the courtyards
Klagenfurt's centre is small and dense. Neuer Platz with the Lindwurm fountain — the city's emblem — runs into Alter Platz, and all around them lie the arcaded courtyards that give the old town its Renaissance character. Much of it reveals itself simply by wandering, without a plan and without long distances. If you like a city where you can walk back from dinner to your apartment without taking transport, that counts for something here.
Lake Wörthersee
Lake Wörthersee lies west of the city and in summer it is the reason many people come to Klagenfurt at all. At the eastern end, where the city meets the water, you find the lidos and the Europapark. From the centre the Lend Canal runs in that direction. How long it takes from your apartment depends on the building — we are not putting a number here that we have not measured.
Where our apartments are
Our six Klagenfurt apartments are spread across three buildings. Four of them are in Villa 100und10 on Koschatstraße and are called Moos, Pazifik, Rose and Stone — this building has its own parking spaces on the grounds, which is worth more than it sounds in a city where you drive out to the lake. There is also a studio on Gabelsbergerstraße and a large apartment on Sponheimerstraße that sleeps eight. What each one offers in terms of kitchen, laundry and equipment is listed on the individual apartment page.
Getting around, with and without a car
You do not need a car for the old town; it is compact enough to cover on foot. As soon as you want to head to the lake or further out into Carinthia, a car becomes useful. Klagenfurt is connected to long-distance rail via its main station, and Klagenfurt Airport (KLU) sits on the edge of the city. Which bus line stops near your building goes into the facts box as soon as we have checked it per location.
Onwards from Klagenfurt
Carinthia opens up well from here: the villages around Lake Wörthersee, and to the west Villach, where we also run apartments. From there it is not far to Italy and Slovenia. We deliberately do not quote travel times — they depend on route, season and traffic, and guessing would be worse than leaving it open.
Getting there & around
Klagenfurt has a long-distance rail connection via its main station, plus Klagenfurt Airport (KLU) on the edge of the city. Buses run within the city. Concrete lines, stops and journey times go into the facts box once we have checked them per location — estimated times do not go into this text.
Parking
This differs by apartment. Villa 100und10 on Koschatstraße has its own parking spaces on the grounds. For the studio on Gabelsbergerstraße and the apartment on Sponheimerstraße we have not yet finished checking the parking rules; what applies is stated on the individual apartment page, and we are not claiming anything beyond that here.

Frequently asked questions
How does the city tax work in Klagenfurt?
In Carinthia the city tax is a pass-through charge per person per night — unlike Vienna, where it is calculated as a percentage of the accommodation price. For Klagenfurt the rate on file is currently €2.70 per person per night, children and young people up to 17 are exempt, and a maximum of 60 nights is counted. Carinthia is moving to a statewide visitor levy on 1 November 2026. That is why you always see the amount that applies to your travel dates as a separate line in the booking before you pay.
Do I need a car in Klagenfurt?
Not for the old town — it is compact and walkable. For Lake Wörthersee and trips around Carinthia a car is practical. If you are coming by car: Villa 100und10 has its own parking spaces on the grounds. That is not automatically the case at the other two buildings, so please check the page of the specific apartment.
How many apartments do you have in Klagenfurt, and where are they?
Six, across three buildings: four units in Villa 100und10 on Koschatstraße (Moos, Pazifik, Rose and Stone), a studio on Gabelsbergerstraße, and an apartment for eight guests on Sponheimerstraße.
Can I book directly with you?
Yes, all six apartments are bookable directly here. Before you pay you see the full breakdown, including the city tax as a separate line.
Is Klagenfurt suitable for longer stays?
The city has the infrastructure for it, and our apartments are set up for self-catering. Exactly what you get in terms of kitchen, laundry and workspace differs by apartment and is listed on the individual apartment page. For stays of a month or more, get in touch and we will look at the terms together.
