Pink — Reading Nook Apartment for Two, Villach
Draupromenade 12, 9500 Villach, AustriaAbout this listing
Welcome to Pink
There is no sofa in this apartment. What there is instead is a padded nook built into the window, deep enough to sit in sideways with your feet up and a book in your lap. Outside stand old chestnut trees, and behind them the promenade, the river and the mountain silhouette. Inside it is dusty rose and terracotta, warm rather than loud, 34.20 m² for two people who like their evenings slow.
Highlights
- Padded nook built into the window, deep enough to sit in sideways with a book
- No sofa. Seating here is the nook plus four chairs at the round dining table
- Green outlook: old chestnut trees stand directly in front of the glass
- Dusty-rose and terracotta colour scheme, a brass arched mirror and one floor lamp to read by
- King bed for two, with blackout curtains at the windows
- Built-in wardrobe unit that doubles as the room divider
- Kitchenette with two hobs, fridge, sink and a Nespresso capsule machine
- TV with Netflix included, free WiFi, own entrance and self check-in via key safe
The Space
You come in through your own entrance off the shared hallway, which is bright and has seating, a waste room and a fire extinguisher. Inside, the nook sets the tone for everything else. It is built into the window, padded, and it faces the chestnut trees; one floor lamp stands beside it, which is all you need after dark. The rest of the room follows the same warm palette: dusty rose and terracotta against light oak parquet, a brass arched mirror on the wall, 2.65 m ceilings with track spotlights overhead. One round concrete column is left standing bare — the 2026 conversion of these former ground-floor commercial units did not hide it. A built-in wardrobe unit runs across the room and quietly separates the sleeping half from the living half, so the king bed — made up Austrian style with two separate duvets — is not the first thing you look at when you walk in.
Cooking happens at the kitchenette: two hobs, fridge, sink, and pots, a pan, crockery, glasses and cutlery already in the cupboards. The Nespresso machine covers mornings. You eat at the round table with four chairs — enough room to spread out a map, a laptop or a second breakfast.
In the bathroom the shower is a glass cubicle with a hand shower on a rail. Alongside it, a wall-hung WC and a washbasin with a mirror above it; hot water comes from an electric wall boiler. Hair dryer, towels and bed linen are provided. Storage is the built-in wardrobe with a hanging rail and hangers, which is generous for two people travelling with normal-sized luggage.
Location
Draupromenade 12 sits directly on the bank of the river Drau in Villach, Carinthia. The old town is on the opposite bank, which is the useful part: everything you want in the evening is a short walk away, and the nightlife stays on the other side of the water.
- Old town and main square (Hauptplatz) with St. Jakob parish church: 5 minutes on foot across the bridge
- Restaurants, cafés, shops and supermarkets: all in the old town across the bridge
- Villach railway station: about 10 minutes on foot (roughly 1 km)
- A2 motorway access: 5 minutes by car
- Lake Faak 15 minutes, Lake Ossiach 20 minutes, Lake Wörth 25 minutes by car
- Gerlitzen and Nassfeld ski and hiking areas within reach
- Tarvisio (Italy) 35 minutes, Kranjska Gora (Slovenia) 40 minutes by car
- Villacher Kirchtag, one of Austria’s largest folk festivals, at the end of July: walking distance
- The Drau Cycle Path runs past the building — Villach is the handover point from stage 3 (Spittal to Villach) to stage 4 (Villach to Ferlach)
Perfect For
- Couples — a king bed, one warm room and a window nook instead of a TV-facing sofa. The TV is still there when you want it.
- Solo travellers who read — the nook, the floor lamp and the chestnut trees do most of the work. Bring the book you have been putting off.
- Cyclists taking a rest day — the path runs past the window, and the blackout curtains make an early night easy before you ride on.
- Anyone driving on to Italy or Slovenia — the A2 is 5 minutes away, Tarvisio 35 minutes, Kranjska Gora 40 minutes, and dinner in the old town is a five-minute walk.
Good To Know
- Ground floor, path at the window. The riverside foot and cycle path passes the window roughly at eye level. Blackout curtains are fitted on every window.
- No sofa, and the apartment sleeps two. Seating is the padded nook and the four dining chairs. There is no sofa bed, no extra bed and no cot.
- Not here: washing machine, tumble dryer, dishwasher, oven, microwave, kettle, toaster, air conditioning, iron, desk. Cooking is two hobs plus pots and a pan.
- The shower is a hand shower on a rail inside a glass cubicle, not an overhead rain shower.
- No balcony, terrace or garden. The green view comes through the window.
- Parking: there is no guest parking at the building. The Willroider car park is free and 5 minutes on foot.
- Villach city tourist tax: EUR 2.70 per person per night, added to your booking total here — nothing to pay in cash on arrival.
- Booking terms: cleaning fee EUR 95 per stay, 10 % accommodation VAT included in the rate. Minimum stay is usually 2 nights.
- Arrival: check-in from 15:00, check-out until 10:00. Self check-in via key safe; you get the code the day before you arrive.
- Yoga in the house: there is a small yoga and movement studio in the building (Rio Lounge), with evening classes Monday to Thursday. It is quiet — yoga, not a gym — and it is run separately from us, so ask them directly if you would like to join a class.
- House rules: long-term residents live in the building too, so quiet hours are 22:00 to 08:00. Non-smoking, no parties, no events. Only booked guests stay overnight; daytime visitors are fine, just let us know. Pets are not offered.
Why Book Direct
Booking on happystay.at gets you the best available rate for this apartment — no booking fees, no platform surcharges. It also means you can ask us the question that actually decides this one: whether an apartment with no sofa, one nook in the window and 34.20 m² is the right shape for the two of you. You get a straight answer before you book and someone to ask during your stay. If Pink is not the right fit, there are four other apartments in the same building.
The Other Apartments in the House
Five apartments share this building on the Draupromenade, and they are genuinely different from one another. If Pink is not the right shape for your trip, one of these probably is:
- Turquoise — the largest, three zones and a lounge corner, sleeps 4
- Gold — the padded window seat over the river, for 2
- Drau — the bed at the panorama window, sleeps 4
- Grass Green — one room for 4 on the quiet side
You can see all five side by side on our Villach page. We also host apartments in Vienna and Klagenfurt.
Frequently Asked Questions
Is there a sofa in this apartment?
No. The seating is the padded window nook plus the four chairs at the round dining table. If you want a sofa to stretch out on, one of the other apartments in the building will suit you better — just ask us.
What do you actually see from the window?
Old chestnut trees, right in front of the glass — this is the view this apartment is built around. Behind the trees lie the promenade, the river and the mountain silhouette.
Where is the bed in relation to the living area?
Behind the wardrobe. The built-in wardrobe unit runs across the room and splits it into a sleeping half and a living half, so the king bed is not in your line of sight from the door or from the nook.
Can people on the riverside path see in?
The apartment is on the ground floor and the foot and cycle path runs past the window at about eye level. Blackout curtains are fitted on every window, so you can close the room off completely whenever you want.
Can I work here for a couple of days?
Only up to a point. There is free WiFi and the round dining table takes a laptop, but there is no desk and no office chair, and the nook is built for a book rather than a screen. This apartment suits time off better than a work trip.
Can I cook a proper meal?
You can cook on two hobs, and pots, a pan, crockery, glasses and cutlery are all here. There is no oven, no microwave and no dishwasher, so plan for pasta, pan dishes and breakfast rather than a roast.
